A Look into a Day at the Nix': Monoa Falls

The last two weeks we have had some amazing weather. It was has been a bit cooler and wonderfully sunny. It makes it great for outing here on the island, since the winter months are the slow months for tourism. We decided to take a hike up to Monoa Falls. I was told that it would be what you think of when you think of the beauty of Hawaii. It was very lush and the trees were amazing. It looks like you are in an episode of LOST (it's filmed here on the island).

Ava road in a backpack on my back and Elijah hiked up to the falls and down. He did wonderful going up the at times challenging terrain. He fell a few times, but quickly recovered. Elijah knows what a water fall is and was super excited to get there. If we stopped a long the way he would say, "Let's keep moving". Both E&A received binoculars from Nana and Grandpa so they were super excited to use those on the hike. Ava was great staying and being pretty content in the backpack. She liked looking at the waterfall and loved having her binoculars to look out into the woods. She was able to walk on the return back down from the falls when it evened it out. She saw a few people with walking sticks and decided to find one of her own. The kids both loved the hike and I am sure we will be visiting it again with others who come to visit.

On a side note a cultural thing here is to call people Auntie, Uncle, Brother, Sister. Jaron's father was referred to as uncle by a local. He said, "Hey Uncle will you take our picture". Another example is a play morning that E&A attend sometimes the teacher refers to herself as Auntie Caroline. It's just kinda of a cultural thing. Jaron claims that he heard monkey's on the hike, but I was more concerned with staying on my feet and watch where I was going.
